As Noel is working hard back in Kabul, the kids and I are enjoying time with family and getting into a school routine. David and I arrived on August 19th via Dubai and a 10 hour layover. Our first week was full of reconnecting with Winter, hanging out with Nana and Papaw, shopping, and even a trip to the dentist. Next stop was Illinois and some time with Teresa’s sister and her family. The cousins swam, played games, and enjoyed getting reconnected. You would not have known they had not been together in over 2 years. Since the kids are older, my sister Stacey and I even enjoyed a couple of outings without the kids.
Now we are in Iowa with my mom. Even though it is the hottest week all summer here in Iowa, we are enjoying the peacefulness of the country, walking barefoot in the grass and getting Winter and David into a school routine. Mom has been a gracious host keeping us fed and out of trouble. Mom and I have restarted our scrabble games. The kids even beat mom and I in Peanuts last night. We have went walking and biking. We have laughed so hard I am sure the neighbours a quarter mile away heard us.
In another week or so, we will be heading to Idaho to meet up with Noel. Our wish is that along the way between now and February we will see many of you. We will be in Texas for October and then make stops in Iowa, Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri in the months of November and December and possibly January. Pray that our schedule with be God guided and we will have opportunities to share about how God is working in Afghanistan and how we get to be a part of it.
Here are a few pictures of our time so far.
