Easter is not a holiday that is celebrated here in Afghanistan plus Sunday is a regular workday. Nonetheless, our guys took the day off so our team could celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. Our team gathered at our house to first worship together and then have brunch. It was extra special for our team to read scripture and sing together since it has been harder to gather for regular times of worship together due to security restrictions. Noel led the service from the keyboard with Winter playing her violin and another teammate playing the guitar.
Easter was a beautiful day with the sun shining and just the right temperature. We were able to eat outside and the young kids were able to hunt for Easter eggs that Winter and David had hid. After the hunt, the little ones played as the older kids and adults played frisbee or bocce ball. Others gathered around to just talk and get caught up on each others’ lives. In the middle of our team, a local staff member brought by some Ashak and bulani for a guest who is staying with us. Our guest gladly shared the two, huge plates with the rest of the team. Ashak is like a dumpling filled with leeks and covered in a yogurt sauce. Bulani is like a fried, double layer crepe that can be filled with potatoes or other things. The day was a reminder of how important it is to gather with family and friends to not only worship together but to share life. Here are a few pictures of our day.
This week has been great for flights and getting caught up on maintenance. Our admin is still working on getting our flight permissions extended past May and met with officials this week. Continue to pray for favor with the government and these officials. Our first two families are moving to Bamiyan this week. Bamiyan is a more remote area that we think will be better for families with young kids. Pactec will be starting a school there this fall for K-5. It will be a country school type setting. If you know of any teachers who would be interested, let us know. Teresa, Winter, David and our two other students are plugging away at school. The days are actually going by quickly, and summer will be here before we know it.
Thank you for all your support and prayers. We are blessed to have you as part of our team. Even though it is a little late, HE IS RISEN!! Blessings, TJ
So glad you had a good Easter! It was very touching to read your story. I’m glad everyone had a chance for fellowship. Blessings!
