We have an interesting tradition that can occur three times in a pilot’s career here. When a pilot finishes his first officer training and field checkout is one of those times. The others are upgrade to captain and Kodiak solo checkout. I completed my first officer and field checkout this week. When I stepped off of the airplane, many of the Afghan workers and some of my collegues poured buckets and buckets of water on me. They caught me quite off guard. The Afghans love to celebrate. Later this week I will buy lunch (kabobs and chips) for everyone. I want to say a special thanks to my instructor Daniel. He is one of the best teachers I have had the privelege of learning from – in more ways than one.
