Last Sunday morning, Noel and I landed in Kabul and spent the rest of the day packing up our house to move. By the end of Sunday, our container was packed and ready to go. Our local workers and team members were a big help with the whole process. Monday night, a truck came and picked up our container to take it to Bamian, our new home. We would fly and meet it there the next day.
On Monday, Noel and I headed to the airport to fly to our new home. Due to a misunderstanding, we actually didn’t fly out until the afternoon. Upon arriving in Bamian around 3:00 in the afternoon, our team quickly helped unpack our container so the truck could go back to Kabul. We unpacking by putting everything on the roof. This made it easier for us to sort and figure out where everything should go. One of our guys is great with laying carpet and was able to make a piece of carpet from our old house fit our new living room. (For more about how we move here click here. ) The next few days were spent unpacking and figuring out how to make the most of our small space. Noel was also busy helping fix some plumbing issues such as a leaky toilet and no water pressure. Except for setting up our solar system for back up electricity, we are all moved in.
Let me give you a tour.
We live on the top floor of a house with another family living on the first floor and basement. In the basement, we share a laundry room. To get to our house, you either go through our teammate’s house or come up these stairs.
Our outside entrance is on the roof. We were able to bring our outdoor furniture and set up a fun sitting area. I can’t wait to try it out.
From our roof, you can see this… a mix of beauty and lots of construction.
This is our hallway. Doesn’t everyone keep their refrigerator in their hallway?
To the right is our living/dining/kitchen area. Our bookshelf is our pantry.
Our shower and bathroom are right off of our kitchen behind these two doors.
Lastly, on the left of the hallway is our bedroom/office.
We are enjoying our small space and starting to feel at home. Today Noel left to head to the states for some meetings. I am prepping for school which starts on Monday.
- Pray for our house’s plumbing issues. Ours are fixed but downstairs is now having problems.
- Pray for Noel’s meetings as they are working on a few things that will help us get the paperwork needed to get our flight permissions.
- Pray for our new school which starts on Monday. Pray for me as I teach fifth grade and math to 2nd and 3rd.
- Praise that the kids are doing well at their new schools.
- Praise that we are moved in.
Blessings, Teresa
